Attributing Krummacher’s Words to an Angel
EGW claimed she always quoted her angel in quotation marks. Ellen directly quoted an "angel" in the year 1890, embedding within the angel's statements sentences taken word for word from a book called "Elijah the Tishbite" written only a four years prior in 1886 by a man named Krummacher. With her well documented habit of copying the work of others so extensively in all her major works, it is apparent that Ellen has testified falsely as to the origin of the words of an "angel." The question has to be considered, if she attributed the words of Krummacher to an angel in this case, how many other times did she accredit her inspiration from other sources to an angel of God? There are no Biblical accounts of an angel providing instruction to a prophet that could have been quoted from another uninspired human being. Ellen claims the angel spoke these words directly to her; but it cannot be denied that this is spiritually dishonest in her theft of Krumacher's words. This cannot be the sign of a prophetic message, nor can this be ignored due to how serious it is to claim to have visions and direct messages from God.
- “And here I would state that although I am as dependent upon the Spirit of the Lord in writing my views as I am in receiving them, yet the words I employ in describing what I have seen are my own, unless they be those spoken to me by an angel, which I always enclose in marks of quotation.” (The Review and Herald, October 8, 1867, par. 9)
Krummacher's Words Published in 1886:
- “He always knows exactly, and much better than we do, what is good and necessary for his children; and, in truth, he never leads them otherwise than they would wish him to lead them, if they were able to see as clearly into their hearts and their necessities, as he does. But we very seldom know what is good for us; and therefore the ways by which God leads us are generally mysterious and obscure, just because the why and the wherefore are concealed from us. But however severe, painful, and dark the Lord’s guidance of us may occasionally appear, it is in reality nothing less than an answer, if not to our express petitions, yet to our wants, and to those necessities of ours with which we may be unacquainted…They must venture upon his word, they must believe before they see, and go forward in faith. This is the way of our gracious God. We must venture upon his word; and verily, however much we seem to hazard in his name, nothing is really hazarded. And when he commands us to go forward, be it into fire, tempest, or the sea, let us advance boldly and be of good cheer: the result will be glorious. Truths like these, of the most consolatory kind, we shall see confirmed, as we now proceed with the history of our prophet." Elijah the Tishbite, by F.W. Krummacher, p. 13-14 (1886)
Ellen G. White's Words Published in 1890:
- “During the night season I was specially moved upon by Spirit of God…I fell asleep, and in the night season I was taught of God. My guide said, “I have a work for you to do. You must speak the words given you by the Lord. After these words have been spoken, your duty here is done. You are not required to enter into details before individuals, whatever may be their position or work, if they do not recognize the voice of God in the message He gives you to bear in His name. All your efforts to remove their doubts will be of no avail if they gather the clouds of darkness about their souls. If you enter into particulars, you weaken the message. It is not you speaking, but the Lord speaking through you. Those who want to know the will of God, who do not desire to follow their own will and judgment, will be easily entreated. They will be ready to discern the right way. The whys and wherefores are concealed from you, yet speak the words I give you, however painful it may be to you. The ways in which God leads His people are generally mysterious. You have asked to know God's way. Your supplication has been answered. God knows better than you do what is good and essential for His children. He never leads them otherwise than they would wish to be led if they were able to see as clearly as He does what they must do to establish characters that will fit them for the heavenly courts. The people whom God is leading must venture out upon His word. They must walk forward by faith. Truths have been committed to them which they must obey. The work of God is aggressive. No one can stand in a neutral position and yet be a soldier in the Lord's army. God has commands for His people…I have a message for you to those who are serving self, but they will pass it by as though they heard it not… But imbued and stimulated by the Spirit of God, you are to bear the message given you, without worrying or calculating the result...” Letters and Manuscripts, vol. 6, Manuscript 29, November 21 (1890)
